Maryland's First Case of Seasonal Flu 2016

Maryland sees 1st confirmed case of seasonal flu, urges residents to get shots. Department Secretary, Deputy Secretary get vaccinated in Charles County.

Baltimore, MD (October 7, 2016) – The Department of Health and Mental Hygiene is announcing the arrival of seasonal influenza, with the first confirmed case of the 2016-2017 influenza season. The first laboratory-confirmed case of the flu has been diagnosed in an adult in the National Capitol Region. With an extended weekend in store for many Marylanders, now is a good time to get a flu shot.

Baltimore, MD (September 16, 2015) – The Maryland Office of Minority Health and Health Disparities (MHHD) has received its largest grant since its establishment in 2004. MHHD received a five-year grant award totaling $1million from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services’ Office of Minority Health’s State Partnership Grant Program to Improve Minority Health.  
Maryland Sees First Confirmed Human Case of West Nile Virus in 2015

Baltimore, MD (August 18, 2015) – The Department of Health and Mental Hygiene (DHMH) today is announcing the first confirmed and locally acquired case of West Nile Virus (WNV) in Maryland this year. The infected individual is an adult who lives in the Baltimore Metropolitan region. In addition, WNV also has been detected in mosquito pools collected in Anne Arundel and Prince George’s counties. A mosquito pool is a group of mosquitoes collected at one of several trap sites across the state.
